A year in the other Cambridge

Last day in Cambridge (for 2012!)

Oy, being sick really threw me off my blogging game, and then the end of term hit–it’s been crazy! I can’t believe I’ve been here for 8 weeks already… and I also can’t believe I’ve only been here for 8 weeks. I’m leaving Cambridge at 7am tomorrow to get to the airport and fly home to MD!

Since it’s been so long since I last posted, I figured I should put something up before going home for the next six weeks… but I’m frantically writing my PhD apps, so here are pictures from my cell phone from the past few weeks that haven’t been posted yet!

For my first class presentation, my classmate helped me think through what to talk about and how to structure it. These are our whiteboard notes:

If they don’t make any sense to you, no worries, because I don’t remember what we were talking about anymore.

One Saturday night, my classmates and I went on a pub crawl. We actually made it to all 5 of these!

The Eagle was too busy though, so we didn’t actually stay there for long.

Three Fridays ago, I went to a chamber choir concert with one of my classmates in the Jesus College Chapel. On the way back, we saw this funky exhibit on King’s Chapel!

There was some weird music playing, and the dots got bigger and smaller.

The Cambridge Alumni Relations Office held a Thanksgiving lunch for all the American students. They gave us each a plate with turkey, a pate-like round of stuffing, and a bacon-wrapped sausage. Small sauce dishes of cranberry sauce and mustard were provided, and then we had some mashed potatoes and root vegetables to share. They whisked away our plates as we were trying to get seconds on the sides, and brought out the dessert…

If that doesn’t look like pumpkin pie to you, that’s because it wasn’t. It was vaguely pumpkin-pie-spiced custard pie. But still, nice effort, Cambridge.

And finally, last Sunday I went to the Free Press Pub recommended by Tom. It’s on a quiet little street, and there were families inside having pub lunch. It felt so British!

And that’s it for now! I have a backlog of post ideas that I’ll try to work on after getting these apps out the door, so hopefully in a week or two!
